About the Chess Association of Queensland

At the CAQ, we are the heartbeat of organised over-the-board chess in beautiful Queensland, Australia. Our mission is to foster a vibrant chess community that brings together players of all levels, from enthusiastic beginners to seasoned masters.

Our Heritage

Founded in 1897 as the Queensland Chess Association, we carry a rich legacy of chess excellence forward into the modern era. We are proud to be affiliated with the Australian Chess Federation Inc.  As a non-profit organisation, we are dedicated to promoting the game we love while adhering to the principles outlined in our Constitution.

Our Leadership

The CAQ is steered by a passionate team known as the Council, which consists of dedicated individuals including a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Secretary, Tournament Officer, Regional Liaison Officer, Ratings Officer,  Junior Chess Coordinator, Development Officer, Publicity Officer and Women’s Officer. This diverse committee meets regularly, collaborating to shape the future of chess in our community.

Get Involved!

Every year, our Council members are elected by the clubs affiliated with us during our annual general meeting. This democratic process ensures every voice is heard and we remain responsive to the needs of our members. Whether you’re keen to compete, learn, or simply connect with fellow chess enthusiasts, becoming a part of CAQ is your gateway to a world of strategic thinking, camaraderie, and competition.

Join us and be a part of Queensland’s exciting chess journey! Together, let’s elevate the game and inspire the next generation of chess players.
